What sparked your interest regarding starting a business?
The first thing I think that sparked my interest in starting a business was the endless option to express my creativity. Whether it is through actually creating a new design or thinking of a new way to market my company. Being in control and having the power to make decisions on how to operate had a big factor too.
Why did you choose this particular business to start?
I love shoes and I love art. So combining them together and being able to make a profit off the two really sold me. I am sure I would still love shoes and art without it being my way of income/business, but the fact that I can make a good living from two things I really enjoy is just awesome.
How has the OPRF School of Business assisted in your decision to start and run your business?
It assisted my decision to run my own business greatly. After learning the basics on how companies are laid out and operated, along with learning about unique entrepreneurs that create specialized small businesses really opened my eyes. What I mean by "opened my eyes" is that it became apparent to me that I did not need to go to college to in return get a job for a boss. I learned through the OPRF school of business that I could go to college to accelerate in creating my own company and learning the right tools to succeed without following the general idea of grade school, high school, college, and then finding a job.
If you could tell all the OPRF School of Business students something about being an entrepreneur, what would it be?
If you are a motivated person and like to set goals/accomplish them without someone forcing you then become an entrepreneur. It is one of the most fulfilling, exciting, challenging roller coaster ride you will ever get to ride. daily, if you catch yourself waiting around to be told what to do or how to accomplish a goal and need guidance for small tasks I would suggest not to become an entrepreneur.
What would you tell students who have not taken a class in the OPRF School of Business?
To take it, along with many of the other amazing extracurricular classes that are offered at the high school. The OPRF School of Business changed my entire outlook on life, and how I should live it. I thought I was going to just learn how small business are ran, not take enough away from a general class to change my outlook on life and tell myself it is ok for me to not follow the general story of having to "find" a job after college. It taught me to go to college and learn the tools needed to "create" my own job.
What drives you to succeed?
A couple of different things. I would say general success/comfort in life I understand can only come from my business succeeding. Money is a big thing, not for just the sole fact to become rich, but I like to look at money as points almost. With each work week kind of being a long extended game, my goal is to get as many points in that game time as physically possible. Also the more I / my company succeeds i understand the more creativity I get to overall expres.
What are any take-aways from your education in the OPRF School of Business that you utilize in your business?
As I noted on beforehand, just the general idea that you can find something you love, get good at it, understand how a business operates and then mix them together to create a career.
What is your most memorable moment in a OPRF School of Business class?
T-shirt sales project by far. It was my first time doing hands on projects like it and it really flipped a switch in me (and I think it did in a lot of other students too). Learning how to observe a market, create a product you think will sell well with that market, and then actually sell that product was an amazing opportunity. The cherry on top was seeing how much money we were able to raise for charity too!
Where would you like to see the OPRF School of Business in 5 years?
Doing big things.
Hands on real life projects (like the t shirt sales) but even bigger and more technical.
