What sparked your interest regarding starting a business?
All throughout high school I longed to find a suiting career path for me. I was first introduced to network marketing which was a great learning experience. I then saw how my brother and my father had been running their businesses and it was inspirational. I wanted to do the same.
Why did you choose this particular business to start?
Fashion has always been of importance to me as my family understands the importance of representation. One day my family and I gathered ties, bow ties, and pocket squares that took up closet space, which consisted of about 300 items of clothing, and my dad told me that I should go sell them out of my dorm room, and so I did.
How has the OPRF School of Business assisted in your decision to start and run your business?
I remember Freshman year I took a business class with Mr. Hostrawser and I was one of the youngest kids in the class. The class was amazing though because I was being an entrepreneur. We designed T shirts for different organizations, raised money, and even met with representatives from companies like Coca-Cola. I took a few more business classes throughout high school and we just always did really cool stuff. It was a relief from geometry class. (no offense to Mr. Wright)
If you could tell all the OPRF School of Business students something about being an entrepreneur, what would it be?
In my short time of running a business, I would say that it is important to stay consistent. And the only way you’ll stay consistent with something is if you truly care about it.
What would you tell students who have not taken a class in the OPRF School of Business?
Take one! Since being at Northwestern, I can truly appreciate the courses taught at Oak Park. OPRF provides students with very diverse courses similar to college. You can really explore your interests at OPRF so why not? You never know what you’ll find out.
What drives you to succeed?
My values and intrinsic motivation to be financially free and independent.
What are any take-aways from your education in the OPRF School of Business that you utilize in your business?.
To not be afraid to put yourself out there. Let people know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. When customers can understand your purpose, they become supporters in most cases.
What is your most memorable moment in a OPRF School of Business class?
One time the business program brought in a group of local entrepreneurs and had them serve as a panel to the students. I thought it was so cool how these professionals with really interesting businesses took time out of their day to visit us and have a discussion.
Where would you like to see the OPRF School of Business in 5 years?
So I hear OPRF is getting an incubator. That is incredible! Northwestern just got an incubator two years ago! And we have a $9B endowment. I would love to see the incubator as a popular space in the school. I would also love to see more alumni get involved.
