Dan Bevan - Co-founder BINAPRO - Class of 2015
What sparked your interest regarding starting a business?
I first sparked interest in business during my first semester Small Business Management class as a senior. The environment for learning resonated with me and the business mindset took over ever since.
Why did you choose this particular business to start?
My first business was Bevan's Convenient Catering. I chose the food industry for 2 main reasons. I love food. I love cooking.
As I started to understand more about the world, I developed a burning desire to help as many people in the world as possible. That's where Binapro comes in. Binapro is a social networking platform designed primarily for business professionals to create, work on, and launch innovative projects.
Why Binapro Exists:
Binapro believes that people who manifest the purest form of innovation are mandatory for solving the world’s inefficiencies; ranging from improving consumer experiences to eliminating 3rd world hunger. Binapro is dedicated to establishing a “no excuse” culture. Want to change the world? Binapro! Want to turn your idea into a reality? Binapro! Want to cement your legacy? Binapro!
How has the OPRF School of Business assisted in your decision to start and run your business?
The OPRF School of Business has given me some of the tools I need to be successful but more importantly, I have been put in uncomfortable and challenging positions to increase my learning curve. Traditional education only gets you so far.
Being given the opportunity to present, network, and work with business owners and the like is 10x more effective. Moral of the story; failure is part of success so embrace it!
If you could tell all the OPRF School of Business students something about being an entrepreneur, what would it be?
If you are passionate about something, challenge yourself to make a business out of it. Look at your life from a different perspective. Instead of seeing what everyone else is doing, focus on what you are doing and make other people pay attention to you.
"Everyone has the resources. Few are resourceful." - Tony Robbins
The OPRF School of Business has everything you need to succeed so it's all about you taking advantage.
What would you tell students who have not taken a class in the OPRF School of Business?
If you feel you are a creative person, take small business management. Everything is a business. Everyone is a business. Learn how to build your brand. This is only one of the many business classes to grow your mind and increase your value to the marketplace (the world).
"The world's primary currency is no longer the US Dollar. It's attention." - Dre Baldwin
Do something you love, build an audience around it, and monetize.
What drives you to succeed?
My Why: I want to positively impact as many people in the world as possible.
My How: Binapro and all of it's challenges.
My What: Entrepreneurship.
First, you build a strong "Why". Your "Why" is simply your purpose for living. Then you figure out "What" you want to do to accomplish your "Why". Finally, you figure out "How" your "What" is going to accomplish your "Why". This is something I recommend everyone do (not just business people).
What are any take-aways from your education in the OPRF School of Business that you utilize in your business?
My biggest take away from all of my business classes is that leadership is all about learning. It's all about improving. The responsibility that the leader holds is that they have to be on the frontlines when there is a challenge but take the back seat when the team celebrates in success. Leadership is a skill and an attitude that takes experience to master.
What is your most memorable OPRF School of Business experience?
I had many exciting experiences. I would have to say hustling to perfect our presentation for the Chief Marketing Officer of Hyatt Hotels in less than 4 days with an entirely new group was the most exhilarating. We grinded for those 96 hours non-stop! The amount of passion in our work was inspiring. The best part was the impact that we had on the OPRF School of Business. That's what we did it for. We wanted to represent. We had a strong purpose.
Where would you like to see the OPRF School of Business in 5 years?
I would like to see the OPRF School of Business have a significant influence all throughout the school. It should extend past the Business department. I also see it being known as the best high school business school in the nation. The talent level will be unmatched, the teachers as passionate as ever, and the culture symbolize a dedication to consistent growth. One of my responsibilities is to put the OPRF School of Business on Forbes if they don't accomplish it without me. I see nothing but the best in the near and distant future.
